ANNUAL COLLEGE ACTIVITIES 2007-08
It is gratifying that this College has completed 24 years of its existence in the field of visual Art Education in the state. During this long span of more than two decades, it has been enlisted as one of the leading national level art institutions in the country. Both the students and the teachers have been indulged in discovering new vestas in the contemporary field of visual art. The institution is growing in its own scope providing new scientific equipments and materials.
Like previous years, this year we have under-taken several activities and the followings are the preface of the whole year.
Exhibition
We have organized a good many exhibitions in the college and outside.

Three teachers namely Sri B. P. Mohapatra, Sri G.P. Sahu, Instructor and Sri M.R. Jena, Instructor organized their ‘Solo Art’ exhibitions in New Delhi and their works were highly appreciated by several journalists and art critics. |

Sri Dayal Shaw, 3rd year organized a ‘Solo Art’ Exhibition of Drawing and Graphic Art in the College Exhibition hall on 19.09.2007. |

The Department of Graphic Art organized their ‘Grapheeta’ Exhibition at Jayadev Bhawan on 8th October 2007. His Excellency, Governor of Orissa inaugurated the exhibition and the publication ‘Mudra’ was released. |

60 students of this college participated in the Jajpur Chitrakala Mahotsava from 26th December 2007 to 3oth December 2007 among five students were awarded for their excellent works. |

Sri Girija Sankar Dora, a 3rd year student of Applied Art and Design has organized a solo Art Photography in the college Exhibition Hall and created a new awareness in contrast to visual art. The Photographic works were highly appreciated and the students enjoyed it for three days. |
Study Tour cum Excursion

This year, the students of Applied Art had been to Mumbai and visited the historic sites and technical institutions. |

The students of the department of Graphic Art visited a good many sculptural and architectural sites of South-India. |

Participation in the Golden Jubilee Celebration
All students and staff members of the college attended in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Govt. of Art & Crafts, Khallikote on 28th July 2007. |

College Picnic : The students had organized their Annual Picnic at Bhattarika on 12th December 2007. |
Art Competition

|
Fakir Mohan Smruti Sansad organized an art competition on 10th January 2007 in the college complex. Sixty number of students participated in the cometition and three of them awarded in a function. |

Sixty numbers of students and teachers of this institution attended in a Drawing Competition in the Jagannath Temple Complex on 27th November 2007 organised by the J.D. Art Centre Bhubaneswar. |

|
25 Numbers of students participated in an art competition for awareness of AIDS organized by the Red Cross Society on 30th November 2007. |
Artists Camps & Workshops

|
Orissa Lalit Kala Academy had organized an All Orissa Sculptors camp wherein two lectures namely Sri Behera and Sri J.K. Das of this college participated in this camp. |

Sri M R Jena, instructor attended an All India Artist camp in Rajasthan from 25th August to 31st August 2007. |

|
A national level artists camp was organized by the Dreemz Art Gallery of New Delhi at Bhubaneswar. The Principal of the college alongwith 4 teachers namely Sri B. K. Mohanty, Sri G. K. Padhi, Sri G.P. Sahu, and Sri M. R. Jena attended the camp. Honb’le Chief Minister of Orissa inaugurated the exhibition and distributed the certificates. |

30 numbers of students of the Department of Modelling and Sculpture taken part in an artists camp at Jayadev Vihar. The excavated big bolders from the roadside have been utilized for beautification with sculptural dimensions. The camp was organized with the joint venture by the B.M.C., Aliza International Pvt. Ltd., Fahmida International Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with B.K. College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneswar. |
NSS Programme
21 students along with the programme officer, Sri J.K. Das, lecturer attended NSS camp at Madanpur, the new campus of Utkal University of Culture from 8th to 12th November 2007.
Film Festival
20 students attended in a film festival organized by the Film Society of Orissa at Bhubaneswar from 28th November 2007 to 02nd December 2007.
Monthly Exhibition of Sri Jagannathayan
Every month the students and the teachers of each department of the college do take part in the exhibition of Sri Jagannathayan which is encouraging for growth of Art & Culture of Sri Jagannatha.
Computer Unit and the Photography Unit
The college has established its own computer unit, website and internet facilities also available in the college. The students have ample opportunity to get updated information and utilize the computers for future prosperity in Visual Art, Design and Animation.
Hostel and Staff Quarters
In the college campus 4 ‘F’ type and 4 ‘D’ type quarters are nearer to completion.
Necessary steps have been taken for over all development of the institution. Govt. is very much keen in this direction to uplift the institution with UGC assistances, opening up of the new branches of Textile designs and Animation.

Three final year students of this college namely Sri Abhas Kumar Gadnayak, Trinath Mohanty and Srikant Das have received state awards from Orissa Lalit Kala Academy. |

5 students of this college participated on behalf of Utkal University of Culture at the Inter University Youth Festival at Raipur University, Chhatisgarh from 25th December 2007 to 31st December 2007 and bagged the championship trophy for the University, is a great pride for the institution and the university as well. |

Five students of this institution have bagged six awards at the national level inter university youth festival held at Kolhapur, Maharastra for the Utkal University of Culture and made the university the Champion. |
Design Carnival
28 students along with the teachers of this institution participated in the “Design Carnival” on 20.12.2007 at Ekamrahat organized by Indian Institute of Architects Orissa Chapter. The students and the teachers have the opportunity to work together and created a new awareness among the intellectuals and public on visual art on the backbone of architecture.
New Projects
Shortly the college is going to organize a short time Art and Craft training course for the rural and tribal interested young people with the collaboration of Directorate of Employment. In the 1st spell, 200 young people from the rural and tribal area will be selected from all over the state and the duration of the course will be 2 months, it will generate 1000 self employment every year.
Alice Boner Memorial Award and Dibyaranjan Pani Memorial Award
This year Kumari Subhalaxmi Mohanty, 5th year and Sri Laxmidhar Jena, 5th year have been choosen for Alice Boner Memorial Award and Kumar Dibyadarshni Pradhan, 5th year for Dibyaranjan Pani Memorial Award.
To Meet the Artists

A Portrait workshop was conducted in the painting department. Sri Basudev Kamat, an eminent artist of Mumbai along with some of the resource persons of Modern Indian History participated in the camp during the month of October 2007. |

Richard Berger, Associate Professor, School of Studio Practice attended in a “Meet the Artist” on 02.02.2008 in the college campus. He demonstrated his recent works along with the contemporary architecture and sculpture through videos. |

Sri Jagannath Panda a contemporary artist and Ex. Student of this institution attended in a “Meet the Artist” programme in the college on 07.02.2008. |
Teachers as visiting fellow
A.C. Sahuu, Principal B.K. College of Art & Crafts attended NSD, New Delhi as visiting fellow and taken the classes of Art History and Aesthetics at Chennai, Magalore and Mumbai during the month of May 2007 and RCM College, Bhubaneswar.
